If you aren't from Minnesota, you may have not heard of the North Shore. It is a very beloved, rugged part of our state. The North Shore starts at a small city called Duluth (about 2 hours north of the Twin Cities) and then runs up, northeast, along Lake Superior all the way to the Canadian Border.
My family loves the North Shore. So when my husband announced at the beginning of the year that he was going on a "guys weekend" golfing in Florida, my sons begged me to take them on their own adventure.
We left after school on Friday and returned home in time for their flag football games on late Sunday afternoon. Roughly three hours drive each way.
We stayed near a town called Beaver Bay and spent our days hiking along the shores of Lake Superior. It is a great central location!
We brought Wally the dog too of course!
And I let them drink root beer!😳😂 (don't tell Dad. 😉) They loved it!
It was genuinely relaxing. No screens, no video games just lots of fresh air and miles of exploration! Rock collecting and hiking were our two main activities.
There are a lot of shorter hikes you can do with small kids. Some even have waterfalls!
Looking forward to heading back up this summer - with my husband of course!
