My name is Jill Emmer. I am a photographer in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I strive to take whimsical photos that inspire.
I have been honored to have my work featured by publications such as the Huffington Post, the New York Times, Getty Images, REI, Midwest Living Magazine, Star Tribune, Minneapolis St Paul Magazine, Edina Magazine, City Pages, and many others.
I wear many hats. I work as a photographer, artist, traveler, content creator, influencer, teacher, community director and more. Read about all of these roles on the Services page.
I post photos several times a week on my Instagram account: @shineonyoucraydiamond
I came up with my Instagram username on a whim - based off of an old song lyric that I have always liked.
I was featured by Instagram on four different occasions. You can see the most recent feature here.
I also occasionally have my work displayed in local galleries and shows.
Before becoming a photographer, I worked in Advertising for many years. I worked for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel newspaper for over 5 years in Advertising - both in print and online advertising. I have also worked for the Madison Newspapers and the Pioneer Press. And finally, I worked for a worldwide pharmaceutical company for three years.
I graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison with degrees in English Literature and Spanish with a focus in creative writing. I also was a competitive long distance runner and downhill skier. In addition to those sports, I enjoy biking, waterskiing, hiking, traveling and reading. And of course photography! I reside in the Twin Cities with my two young sons, husband and puppy.
