Fellow Milwaukeeans and Visitors! We are so blessed to have this beautiful pathway of art in our city this summer! This is a lovely FREE way to spend an afternoon!

“Gild the Lily” by Carlos Rolón. One of my favorites.

First we downloaded the Sculpture Milwaukee app before we left our house. We parked our car on Wisconsin Avenue very close to Water Street. Then we headed east by foot towards Lake Michigan. We used the app to learn about the different art as we made our way. We walked the “Wisconsin Avenue Mile” as a loop…. Wisconsin Ave & Water Street to the Milwaukee Art Museum on Lake Michigan and back.

There were quite a few other folks also walking the route. I enjoyed chatting with them & feeling like we were part of the community.

It was a wonderful way to spend half of a day! There are a few nice spots to rest & grab a coffee and treats along the way. I am looking forward to returning and catching the art that is located in other areas of downtown!

Some photos from our day:

It was fun not only to look at the art but also to enjoy the Milwaukee architecture.

“Gild the Lily” by Carlos Rolón. It is located right on the river and sidenote: there’s a very nice & clean Dunkin’ Donuts located inside!

Richard Woods “Holiday Home.” The sign says “Do Not Climb” and I made sure the boys didn’t touch any of the sculptures. They sure were curious though! Cy, on the right, was trying to see what was under it.

Finding a shade rest stop near the “Hot Dog Vendor” by Red Grooms. This was the boys’ favorite - mostly because of their funny expressions (and because Arlo didn’t think the guy in pink had pants on! He did though😂).

I love this one too for all of its strangeness! “Hera” By Tony Matelli. Yes, the watermelons are part of the sculpture!

Love bringing the monkeys on outings like this! They look at the art a bit then turn their attention towards exploring and climbing. Always entertaining! 😂

These little lady bugs climbing along this building have always been one of my favorites to visit in Milwaukee. They’re not a part of the official Sculpture Milwaukee but you will see them on your walk! They’ve been there for almost 20 years! Each bug is about 6 feet tall. They were created by a sign maker who was hired by the building’s owner, John Burke.

My boys! They’re standing in front of the Milwaukee-famous big orange sculpture “The Calling.” It was created by Mark di Suvero and installed in the 1980’s.
