Like the growing number of moms in the neighborhood, I am "anti-screens" when it comes to kids. Moderation is key in our house. My kids watch a limited amount of tv and do not play video games regularly. We don't even have a tv on our main floor, just one in the basement family room. The boys each have a personal video game player and we let them play the games on long road trips.
So it came as a surprise to my husband and friends when I started talking about getting my oldest son Cy, 9, his own cell phone!
Here's why: Cy goes on full day (sun-up to sun-down) fishing trips with his grandpa in the wild. They fish in a remote area (gotta go where the fish bite, right!?) where they rarely see other people. It is on a river with a current. Grandpa has been maneuvering boats his entire life but "just in case" he nabs a fish so big it pulls him in 😉 ... I'd really like Cy to have his own phone. There are also days when I have two kids playing baseball or soccer at two different parks and it'd be nice to have a way to let Cy know if I am running late.
I envisioned this phone as something I keep in my room and only hand out on days when I think he may need it. We also keep their video-game players in our room.
A few weeks ago, I started researching best cell service plans and phone options. I was pretty set on buying Cy an old-school flip-phone with a pre-paid plan.
Then I started to think about Cy's budding love for photography and how it could be fun to let him have his own smart phone with a good camera. During the school year he could access his own hot lunch schedule, teacher web sites, etc.. so I began to look a little bit at smart phones.
And suddenly, as fate should have it, AT&T PREPAID reached out asking if I'd like to give one of their plans a try! And so I am thrilled to call this a *sponsored post!" I (of course) agreed & we have spent the last few days trying out a new smart phone with the AT&T PREPAID plan and it could not be a more perfect fit!
AT&T PREPAID has many different plans to choose from. You can also choose from a wide variety of phones.
Thanks to the variety of the AT&T PREPAID plans - I now have the perfect phone for me to "share" with Cy! We pre-pay for the month with no annual contract which means we won't be paying for time we don't use. (For unlimited data it’s only $$60 a month with the AutoPay discount compared to what we spend for mine!) Also - you can qualify for a discount if you start a Multi-Line account - so when Arlo is old enough to fish with Grandpa all day - we can add him on too!
AT&T PREPAID also has daily and per minute plans, so you can even choose a plan that allows you to just pay on the days you use the phone! Read more here: https://www.att.com/prepaid/plans.html
Tomorrow Cy and I are heading to the X-Games here in Minneapolis with our new phone on an AT&T PREPAID plan! He has never been to the X-Games and I know it is going to blow him away! We plan to visit the AT&T PREPAID booth which they described as a "digital lounge" where we can recharge our new phone, learn more about their programs & profusely thank AT&T for their sponsorship. I also want to see him trying it out to navigate our way around the games & take a few photos!
Follow along on my Instagram and Instagram Stories to see our day at the X-Games!!
Thanks so much AT&T for your collaboration! What amazing timing!! This is a product that I promise we will put to good use!
